Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to prep or strip my parts before sending them?
No. We handle all prep start to finish, including disassembly where required, cleaning, and abrasive blasting for adhesion. Send your parts as they are. See our coating process for the full rundown.
Why is surface preparation important before coating?
The finish is only as strong as the surface underneath it. Preparation removes oil, rust, and old coatings and creates a uniform profile so the new coating can physically bond to the part. Skip it and even a premium coating can chip, lift, or corrode early.
What is mechanical adhesion?
Mechanical adhesion is the physical grip created when a coating flows into and locks onto a blasted surface profile, the microscopic tooth on the metal. It is what makes a finish hold up to real-world wear rather than relying on a chemical bond alone.
Can proper prep really prevent coating failure?
Yes. Disciplined stripping, cleaning, abrasive blasting, the right coating selection, a controlled cure, and a final inspection are what reduce peeling, lifting, chipping, and premature corrosion. Prep is the single biggest factor in how long a finish lasts.
What services does Advanced Coatings offer?
We offer Cerakote ceramic coating (H-Series, C-Series high-temp, and Elite), powder coating, hydrographics (water transfer printing), aviation coatings for aircraft components, mil-spec tactical finishes, and OEM volume production with robotics-assisted lines running 24/7. All under one roof in Redmond, OR.
Do you ship parts, or is this a local-only shop?
We serve customers across the US and Canada, and ship internationally to Europe and Asia. If you are outside the area, contact us and we will walk you through the shipping process.
How do I get a quote?
Use the contact form or call us at (541) 548-5033. Tell us the process, material, and quantity and we will send a quote, usually within 24 hours.
How long does a project take?
It depends on the scope, process, and current workload. For most projects, parts ship within 5 to 10 business days. Larger production runs or complex multi-step finishes may take longer. Contact us for a timeline specific to your job.
What colors and patterns can you do?
Cerakote alone comes in hundreds of stock colors, plus we mix custom blends and apply camo, multi-tone, and custom patterns by hand and stencil. Hydrographics adds carbon fiber, wood grain, marble, and other film patterns. If you have a reference, send it along when you request a quote.
What materials can you coat?
It depends on the process. Cerakote bonds to metals, polymers, and other substrates. Powder coating is applied to metals. Hydrographics works on metal, plastic, wood, and glass. When you contact us, tell us the material and we will confirm the right process.
Do you work on single pieces as well as production runs?
Yes. We take one-off custom jobs alongside high-volume OEM production runs. Our robotics-assisted lines are set up for 24/7 production, and our team handles individual firearms, wheels, and custom parts with the same process controls.
Where are you located?
810 NE Hemlock Avenue, Redmond, OR 97756. We are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Call (541) 548-5033 before dropping off parts so we can make sure someone is available.
How much does it cost?
Every project is quoted individually based on the process, material, part count, and complexity. We do not publish a price list. Contact us with your project details and we will send a free quote.
